Vile La Finca and Pincerna, in both cases twice, and Gordonzello add important recognitions in a year of great success for the wineries of the Regulatory Council.

Two silver medals for the Pincerna Albarín (white 2019, 90 points) and Pincerna Sumiller (red 2018, 92 points), two bronze medals for the Valjunco Albarín (white 2018, 86 points) and Valjunco Rosado (2019, also 86 points) and one more of the same metal for La Costana (red 2017, 87 points), which were presented by the wineries Pincerna SL (Grajal de Campos), Vile La Finca (Valdevimbre) and Gordonzello (Gordoncillo), make up the extraordinary balance of the participation of the wines accredited by the León Denomination of Origin in the Decanter World Wine Awards. In addition to these awards, the winery Andrés Marcos-Tampesta (Valdevimbre) also received a “recommended wine” for the Golán (red wine from the 2015 vintage, 85 points).

A jury made up of 116 of the best wine experts in the world, including thirty-seven Tasters of wine and nine master sommeliers, blind tasted 16,518 wines during 28 days. The Spanish representation received 1,844 mentions among medals and recommendations. The awards of the magazine of the British group Decanter, founded in 1975 and present in 99 countries, constitute a guarantee of quality recognized internationally by experts and consumers.

The seventeenth edition of the Decanter magazine awards, the most prestigious contest and with the greatest participation of all those held in Europe and one of the most important in the world, was marked by the rise of lesser-known wine-producing areas which, according to the jury, “show extraordinary quality and excellent value for money”. The classic regions of France, Italy, Spain, the United States and Australia once again achieved the best results.

These new awards come in addition to the many gold and silver medals won in recent weeks by wines from other wineries in a year of unprecedented success in international competitions for wines from the Denomination of Origin Leon. To the three silver medals accumulated by wines certified by the Control Board in the competition held in Brno (Czech Republic) at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, we must add those recently won in Germany, two gold and one silver in Mundus Vini, and the gold and five silver medals obtained in the Vinduero/Vindouro Awards. The results in these four very important competitions of the white, rosé and red wines elaborated with the native grape varieties Albarín and Prieto Picudo demonstrate, once again and with insistence in a very critical moment for the sector, the extraordinary potential of the two varieties of reference for the DO León and their advance in the conquest of prestige by the specialized critics and the international markets.
