‘The Wine Advocate’ is seduced by the Albarín and Prieto Picudo from Vile La Finca, which has also won six awards at the CWWSC international competition; Vitalis adds another two

Four Vile La Finca elaborations were rated between 91 and 93 points by Luis Gutiérrez Santo Domingo, taster for Spain of the American wine guru Robert Parker, founder of the magazineThe Wine Advocate, the most prestigious and influential specialized publication worldwide. In addition, the Valdevimbre winery, with six medals, was the great winner in the international Catavimum World Wine & Spirits Competition (CWWSC), which evaluated more than 2,800 samples in Vitoria. Bodegas Vitalis (Villamañán) rounded off the new international success of the wines of the Denomination of Origin León in this event with two other awards.

In the tasting that he also did of the wines from Señorío de Nava, the winery with which the Vile La Finca group from Leon operates in the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin, Luis Gutiérrez qualified with 91 points out of 100 for Don Suero Rosado Reserva 2019 and Vile La Finca Albarín, with 92 for the red Don Suero Reserva 2016 and 93 for the also red from the 2016 vintage La Finca. These scores elevate the wines from this winery and, by extension, those of the Denomination of Origin León to the level of excellence.

On the other hand, the Catavimum World Wine was once again especially propitious for wines from the production area in the south of the province with two gold and six silver medals. The first were for the red Prieto Picudo Don Suero Reserva 2016 (Vile La Finca-Valdevimbre) and the Lágrima by Vitalis Albarín (Bodegas Vitalis-Villamañán), a white that continues to accumulate extraordinary recognitions. Vile La Finca added four more silvers for the red wine Don Suero Roble 2021 and the Valjunco Albarín and Valjunco Rosado, in addition to the semi-sweet Real Arbás 2022, a type of elaboration not yet covered —it will be soon— by the Denomination of Origin León.

Vitalis, the winery in which Francisco González Bernardo imposes technical criteria, enriches its long and brilliant track record with another silver medal for the 2022 rosé Lágrima de Vitalis as an expression of the potential of the native variety of reference for this type of elaboration. The Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition, which in its 2023 edition brought together exactly 2,817 samples, is open to the participation of all bottled and labeled wines and spirits in the world, whether they are still wines, especially sparkling wines, sweet wines, liqueur wines, liqueurs, etc. .
