El Sueño de las Alforjas, Gordonzello and Meóriga triumph at Bacchus, Vitalis reaches the top of the podium at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and Vile, at the Catavinum
Another eleven medals, mostly gold, make up the extraordinary harvest of the wines certified by the Regulatory Council of the León Designation of Origin at the major international competitions at the start of the 2025 season, which had opened with the most valuable awards at the Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition and the Concours International de Lyon. The big event of the year for rosés under the auspices of the managing body of the wine production area in the south-southeast of the province of León, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, whose specific section for this type of wine was held on this occasion in Constanza (Romania), was decided with the highest distinction for the rosé Lágrima de Vitalis 2024 (Bodegas Vitalis-Villamañán).
However, it was the Bacchus International Wine Competition that most highly valued the enormous potential of León wines, with four gold medals and one silver medal. The white Albarín Cascabel 2024 and the red Prieto Picudo El Sueño de las Alforjas 2022 (El Sueño de las Alforjas-Valdevimbre) took the top step on the podium of the most prestigious competition in Europe, while the white Esencia 33 de 2024 (Meóriga-Mayorga de Campos) and the rosé bivarietal Khur 2024 (Gordonzello-Gordoncillo) occupied the same step.
A third wine from Valdevimbre’s 100% organic project, a winemaking venture as brave, risky and audacious as it is accurate and successful, the white El Sueño de las Alforjas Albarín 2022, a very special wine, added a new silver medal to its already extensive and highly enviable list of awards.
The Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition, which had already awarded two gold medals for the white Lágrima de Vitalis Albarín 2024 and the rosé Lágrima de Vitalis 2024, added another silver medal to its already extensive and very enviable list of winners, The final list of winners includes three gold medals for the white Valjunco Albarín 2023 and the reds Don Suero Crianza 2020 and Don Suero Reserva 2016, all of them from the Vinos de León-Vile winery (Valdevimbre), as well as two silver medals for the Valjunco Rosado 2023 and the red Don Suero Roble 2022.
The seventeen medals (fourteen gold and three silver) accumulated so far in the most prestigious international wine competitions -Catavinum World Wine&Spirits Competition, Concours International de Lyon, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and Bacchus International Wine Competition – confirm the excellent organoleptic qualities of the vinifications made from the native varieties of reference of the León DO, the Albarín in the case of the whites and the Prieto Picudo for the rosé and red wines accredited and certified by the Regulatory Council.
